Pain Medication

Pain medication is used to treat chronic or acute pain in the human body. The human body in pain is a kind of warning signal that something is wrong and a doctor should always be consulted in such a situation.

Codeine and other opiates are combined with weaker pain relief agents such as aspirin, acetaminophen (tylenol or panadol) and ibuprofen. These are usually combined to produce a controlled release pill, that is, a pill that is effective over a prolonged duration of time. The selection in this case relies on the quantity of weaker pain relief agent and the quantity of codeine in each pill. Occasionally ibuprofen is selected over tylenol or aspirin because it is less damaging to the stomach.

The strongest pain medication is fentanyl. It is taken by injection and usually found only in hospitals where it is used to induce sleep in pain suffering patients.

Pain medication like many other opiates is frequently abused for its euphoric effects, this has been a very unfortunate trend recently which has resulted in stricter controls on opiates. The problem being that the lethal dose of an opiate could be only twice the quantity used for recreational purposes. And medically speaking that is a very thin and dangerous line.
